Nursing graduation gifts for your December nurse grad

Smiling woman sitting cross-legged in ripped light jeans, wearing a denim-blue crewneck sweatshirt with white serif "nurse" lettering and a small heart

They did it. Years of care plans, clinicals, early alarms and practice questions, and now there's a pinning ceremony on the calendar. If you're shopping for a nursing graduation gift, you probably want something that says "you made it" a little louder than another mug.

Our pick is a sweatshirt they'll pull on after the ceremony, wear to every NCLEX study session and keep reaching for after their first real shifts. Every design below is original art printed on a garment-dyed Comfort Colors crewneck. Each one is $59.99, and shipping is free on every order. They're printed to order, so check the timing tip near the end before you wait too long.

For the grad who already knows their unit

If your grad has landed a spot on a unit, or spent a final practicum somewhere they fell for, give them a sweatshirt with that unit on it. It's the first piece of team gear of their career.

Shopping for a different specialty? The Floral Collection of unit sweatshirts and the Varsity Collection of unit sweatshirts cover more units, including NICU, ER, trauma and tele. You can also go straight to the ICU nurse sweatshirts, PICU nurse sweatshirts or peds nurse sweatshirts.

A small tip: varsity letters look great in school colors. If you know their program's colors, look for a dye that matches.

For the grad who's officially in their era

Graduation is the start of a whole new era, so let them say it.

For the grad who survived school on humor

Every cohort has one: the classmate who kept the study group laughing at 1 a.m. These are for them.

There's more where those came from in Chart Humor, our funny nurse sweatshirts.

For the grad who likes it simple

Not every nurse wants a big graphic. These quieter designs go with everything, from scrubs to jeans.

Don't forget the RT grads

New respiratory therapists will work right alongside the nurses, and their graduation deserves a celebration too.

How to get the size and color right

Every crewneck is a unisex relaxed fit in sizes S through 3XL. If your grad likes a roomy, oversized look, consider sizing up. The easiest way to be sure is to measure a sweatshirt they already love and compare it with our sweatshirt size and care guide.

Colors vary by design, and each product page lists the dyes it comes in. Comfort Colors crewnecks are garment-dyed, which gives every color a soft, lived-in look from the first wear.

Because each sweatshirt is printed just for your grad, we can't take returns for the wrong size or color, so it's worth that quick measuring check. If anything arrives damaged or misprinted, our refund policy explains how we make it right.

When to order for a December pinning ceremony

Every sweatshirt is made to order. It takes 2 to 5 business days to print, then 3 to 7 business days to ship, so plan on about 5 to 12 business days in total. Business days skip weekends and holidays, and Thanksgiving falls right in the middle of the run-up to December ceremonies.

Our advice: order at least three weeks before the ceremony. That leaves time to wrap it, write the card and hand it over at the pinning, not after. Shipping details are in our shipping policy.

A gift for the first of many shifts

Nursing school is hard, and finishing it deserves something they'll actually use. A soft sweatshirt with art about their future unit, their era or their favorite inside joke is a gift they'll wear long after the cap and gown go back in the closet.
